Train Your Dragon… Guardians of Nuthatch! (Wednesdays 10am-12pm, 9/10-10/15)
A magical 6-week outdoor homeschool adventure for elementary-aged kids! Join us at Nuthatch Gardens for a nature-based program inspired by How to Train Your Dragon! Each week, children become Viking apprentices and dragon trainers as they explore the wonders of the natural world—flower growing, pollination and the plant life cycle, dried flower crafting, floral teas and remedies, and fresh flower arranging—all while learning how real-life “dragon keepers” care for the earth and maintain harmony in their realm.
When: 6 weekly sessions from September 10 through October 15, 2025, 10:00am-12:00pm
Where: Nuthatch Gardens, 3708 Baker Road, Westminster, MD
Ages: Ideal for elementary learners (grades 1–5)
Rain plan: Sessions move into our cozy historic barn
Your child will:
Identify flowers that support pollinators and our ecosystem
Learn how and when to harvest flowers
Use petals and leaves to make herbal teas and/or dyes
Arrange fresh farm-grown flowers into take-home bouquets
Build their own Viking-style dried flower crafts
Race and play dragon- and ecology-themed games
Practice market sales in a hands-on farm stand role-play
